The Creative Commons Licenses that let authors, scientists, artists, and educators easily mark their creative work with the freedoms they want it to carry. You can use CC to change your copyright terms from "All Rights Reserved" to "Some Rights Reserved."
E.g., the OSGeo web site is published under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike license. Applying a Creative Commons license to (educational) material is one method of producing Appropriately Licensed Material for OSGeo.
