Incubation Committee Report 2011

The last year has been one of change for the incubation committee but not quite enough action! We more projects that wish to take part in the foundation then we have on hand volunteers to help welcome them into the fold.

Join the incubation committee - meet new projects, make friends and help out!

Incubation committee activities in 2011:

  • Daniel Morissette appointed Incubation Chair
  • Daniel Morissette presented at the AGM in Denver
  • Jody Garnett appointed Incubation Chair
  • GeoMOOSE entered incubation with Jody Garnett as mentor
  • rasdaman entered incubation with Bruce Bannerman as mentor
  • MapFish graduation

A number of amazing projects have applied to join the foundation - please volunteer and offer them a warm welcome. The incubation committee is a relaxed supportive environment with meetings every second month. Being a mentor is not a stressful volunteer activity (as your are simply acting as a point of contact and a guest on the project email list) and it is a great way to get involved in the foundation.

Projects in Incubation

We have a number of projects currently in incubation. This section highlights some of the work they are putting into the incubation process and other OSGeo activities.

gvSIG (2007)

Jeroen Ticheler is the project mentor for gvSig.

The gvSig desktop application entered incubation in 2007, with no recent progress reported against incubation goals in 2011. The team has been focused on the upcoming gvSIG Desktop 2.0 where the provenance review required for graduation is scheduled to occure.

It has however been a busy year for gvSIG - with a release of gvSIG Desktop 1.11 in April and continued involvement in the OSGeo live project.

GEOS (2007)

Pending.

MetaCRS (2008)

Pending.

PostGIS (2009)

PostGIS applied to graduate this year and was unable to meet to providence review checks; we are actively awaiting their return.

GeoServer (2008)

GeoServer: started 2008, no recent process, no mentor assigned during 2011

GeoMoose (2011)

GeoMoose entered incubation this year with Jody Garnett as mentor.

GeoMoose has quickly provided the initial "checklist" information and we look forward to the project completing its provenance review in 2012.

rasdaman (2011)

Rasdaman entered incubation this year with Bruce Bannerman as mentor.
