The OSGeo Labs is a place to advertise Open Source Geospatial Software that is not part of the Incubation process yet. This aim to help projects to share ideas and resources and help them to grow bigger and better.

This is the right place to start submit your project so other OSGeo members can review them and send you feedback.

How to start

  1. Read Karl Fogel's book on Open Source Software - How to Run a Successful Free Software Project
  2. Join the OSGeo-discuss mailing-list
  3. Make sure you really read Karl Fogel's book on Open Source Software - How to Run a Successful Free Software Project or be prepared to be sent back to read it
  4. Discuss your project to make sure you are not reinventing the wheel without any new functionality
  5. Get your project a mailing-list and a bug tracker (see #Helpful Resource)
  6. Fill the OSGeo_Labs_Project_Template (Julien, consider using a real MediaWiki template here)
  7. Advertise on OSGeo-Discuss mailing-list

  1. The code is under an OSI approved license (data & doc projects need to specify their choice for a type of license).
  2. The project is willing to keep code clear of encumbrances
  3. The project is "geospatial", or directly in support of geospatial applications.
  4. The project as been accepted by the OSGeo Incubation Committee (why do we need this? It seems people ought to be able to list their projects here without Incubator support. FrankW)
