The Open Source Geospatial Foundation (OSGeo) has a [https://wiki.osgeo.org/wiki/Category:Code_Sprints longstanding tradition] of organizing code sprints for developers of Open Source geospatial software.

An international community/code sprint for OSGeo will take place from 29 September to 03 October 2025.

Over 80 developers from all over the world are expected to attend, from various [https://www.osgeo.org/, OSGeo] projects. Whether desktop application, geospatial library, metadata catalogue or web mapping: be sure to find products in the list that you use. The sprint is also an opportunity for your developers to meet with the core developers of the projects, get a deeper insight into the software and participate in the development.

The sprint will take place in Riga and will be hosted by [https://www.bigdatafromspace2025.org, Big Data From Space '25] and organized by members of the local OSGeo chapter.

In addition to the costs of providing the technical infrastructure and space, food and drink for the developers represents the main cost. Morning/afternoon meals and drinks during the day are planned. In addition, we hope to provide several evening meals and social events.

The Open Source Geospatial Foundation (OSGeo) has a [https://wiki.osgeo.org/wiki/Category:Code_Sprints longstanding tradition] of organizing code sprints for developers of Open Source geospatial software.

An international community/code sprint for OSGeo will take place from 29 September to 03 October 2025.

Over 80 developers from all over the world are expected to attend, from various [https://www.osgeo.org/, OSGeo] projects. Whether desktop application, geospatial library, metadata catalogue or web mapping: be sure to find products in the list that you use. The sprint is also an opportunity for your developers to meet with the core developers of the projects, get a deeper insight into the software and participate in the development.

The sprint will take place in Riga and will be hosted by [https://www.bigdatafromspace2025.org, Big Data From Space '25] and organized by members of the local OSGeo chapter.

In addition to the costs of providing the technical infrastructure and space, food and drink for the developers represents the main cost. Morning/afternoon meals and drinks during the day are planned. In addition, we hope to provide several evening meals and social events.

The Open Source Geospatial Foundation (OSGeo) has a long tradition of organizing code sprints for developers of Open Source GIS software.

An international community/code sprint for OSGeo will take place Nov 6-9, 2023.

We expect about 80 developers from all over the world to come from various [https://www.osgeo.org/, OSGeo] projects. Whether desktop application, geospatial library, metadata catalog or web mapping: be sure to find products in the list that you use. The sprint is also an opportunity for your developers to meet with the core developers of the projects, get a deeper insight into the software and participate in the development.

This years' sprint will take place in Vienna and will be hosted by [https://www.bigdatafromspace2023.org/, Big Data From Space '23] and organized by members of the local OSGeo chapter.

In addition to the costs of providing the technical infrastructure and space, food and drink for the developers represents the main cost. Morning/afternoon meals and drinks during the day are planned. In addition, we hope to provide several evening meals and social events.

BiDS brings together key actors from industry, academia, EU entities and government to reveal user needs, exchange ideas and showcase latest technical solutions and applications touching all aspects of space and big data technologies, providing a unique opportunity to discuss and present the most recent innovations and challenges encountered in the context of big data from space. Also this year, after the online conference, there will be the '''OSGeo community sprint'''.

Participation is free of charge and anyone involved or interested in getting involved in OSGeo community projects is welcome.

This year we will try to offer the format '''an hour with the developer''', where we ask seasoned community members to donate time for welcoming new members and introduce them to different projects or guide them through the setup of the development environment or translation tools and get started on the Foss4G journey.

You can choose to contribute to one or more projects. The sky is the limit. There’s always plenty to do – and it’s not all about programming. Translation, documentation, feedback, discussions, and testing are very important for projects! Conference registration is not a prerequisite for participation in the code sprint.

This page describes OSGeo's process for selecting individuals as per the [[OSGeo signs Memorandum of Understanding with OGC | agreement between OGC and OSGeo]] by which up to six OSGeo community members can become OGC Individual Members free of cost.

== Members of OGC and OSGeo ==
Many individuals, companies, universities and public administrations involved with OSGeo and Open Source software are also regular members of the OGC. The full list is available at the [http://www.opengeospatial.org/ogc/members OGC web site]. A lot of interaction and communication is already maintained through these members.

== OSGeo Member Access to OGC Membership ==
Especially innovative new projects with no existing infrastructure or a regular commercial champion often did not have a chance to participate in the internal OGC processes. Both the OGC and OSGeo have a mutual interest in facilitating this collaboration and have as per their [[OSGeo signs Memorandum of Understanding with OGC | Memorandum of Understanding]] agreed to allow for six OGC Individual Memberships to be used by OSGeo members. To obtain a membership, you must:
# Determine if you are eligible for membership, based on the [http://www.opengeospatial.org/ogc/join/level/individual OGC Individual Membership] rules.
# Submit a short summary of why you want an OGC membership and what work you plan to do with it. This summary should be sent to the selection committee (listed below).
# Every six months, send a summary of what you have done with your membership to the selection committee and the standards list.

Memberships are valid for one year, after which you may reapply by submitting a short summary of why you want an OGC membership.

The selection committee keeps track of who is using our OGC memberships and what they are doing with them. The committee is appointed by the board of directors and periodically reports back to the board on the status of our OGC activity.
