While OSGeo can provide guidance as to [[Geodata Discovery Working Group|finding good sources of open and public geodata]], it would be good to offer maintained packages of high-quality data and metadata for education and demonstration that can be used by the software projects.

The last straw that made me join this effort was that the name of my city was mis-spelled on the [http://mapserver.gdf-hannover.de/grassusers/map.phtml?winwidth=890&winheight=630&language=1&mapwidth=600&mapheight=400 GRASS user's map] and I couldn't do anything about it.
