After twelve successful years, we'll continue the OSGeo "hacking" event in Bolsena in an [http://www.conventobolsena.org/ Italian monastery] ([http://www.openstreetmap.org/?mlat=42.646585&mlon=11.99335&zoom=14&layers=M see map location], and videos: [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9wrZrK64UIw 2008-video], [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mxox3AsjH6Q 2009-video] and [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Vjx06Rlols 2010-video]. The monastery is overlooking Lago Bolsena and offers space to about 25 people in small bedrooms :-) . It is one of the coolest places for such an event. Quiet, isolated, simple and serene. Have a look yourself, including looking at the photo gallery.
For what the food concerns, we cook elaborate meals you will definitely enjoy :-) . There's a large dining space, but we will eat outside overlooking the lake if weather permits (very likely in June).

The all inclusive cost will be 550 Euro (Excl VAT) per person for the full week. You can stay all seven days and food (breakfast, lunch and dinner) is included in the price. As in previous years, we will go out for a city visit and a dinner on one of the evenings (also included).

The event will take place during the whole week (5 days), although the emphasis will probably be Monday to Friday for most participants.

The closest airports are the Roma airports (Ciampino and Fiumincino).

From Rome to the monastery there is 135 km aproximately.

There is no railway to Bolsena.

From Fiumicino to Rome you can take the train [http://www.adr.it/web/aeroporti-di-roma-en-/pax-fco-train METROPOLITANO FR1].

From Rome you can take a bus (cotral http://www.cotralspa.it/ENG/capolinea.asp) to Viterbo and other bus from viterbo to Bolsena (9am & 7.30pm).

Alternatively you can take a train from Rome to Orvieto and take a taxi from Orvieto to Bolsena. Orvieto Taxi info:

From Bolsena main street to the Monastery is aproximately 1 km.

It could be interesting to rent a private bus or several cars to move from Rome to the Monastery and from the Monastery to Rome.

The monastery is overlooking Lago Bolsena and offers space to about 25 people in small bedrooms :-) . It is one of the coolest places for such an event. Quiet, isolated, simple and serene. There's a good wireless and wired internet connection, further improved this year. It should be perfect for git, IRC and mail. Have a look yourself, including looking at the photo gallery.
For what the food concerns, we will have a cook who will take care of us :-) . There's a large dining space, but we will eat outside overlooking the lake if weather permits (very likely in June).

The all inclusive cost will be 550 Euro (Excl VAT) per person for the full week. You can stay all seven days and food (breakfast, lunch and dinner) is included in the price. As in previous years, we will go out for a city visit and a dinner on one of the evenings (also included).

The event will take place during the whole week (7 days), although the emphasis will probably be Monday to Friday for most participants.

== Presentation and workshop ==

On this page, two separate events are discussed: a proposal for a presentation, and a proposal for a workshop.

The purpose of the presentation is to give a good overview of INSPIRE-readiness of the OSGeo projects, with an intended audience of general users.

The workshop, on the other hand, aims to give a quick overview of each (represented) OSGeo project and where it stands in relation to the INSPIRE technical guidelines, followed by a round-table dialog between OSGeo developers and JRC INSPIRE Technical Committee members about issues raised.

The Open Source Geospatial Foundation, or OSGeo, is a not-for-profit organization whose mission is to support and promote the collaborative development of open source geospatial software, data and education. Since the earliest beginning of INSPIRE open source developers have been involved with implementing systems which eventually have to satisfy INSPIRE requirements. Users have requested new features and capabilities to enable their software packages to address requirements resulting from the INSPIRE directive. Developers in turn have given technical feedback to the makers of the directive. As a result INSPIRE over time has evolved into an implementable real-world architecture.

Many members of the OSGeo development teams are located in Europe, and many of them are actively involved in implementing INSPIRE services and geo-portals. There has been a lot of volunteered and financial contribution to OSGeo projects to help implement the official INSPIRE specifications. With the help of many testers, users and community members, OSGeo projects are offering better INSPIRE support year after year.

This presentation is focused on the introduction of various popular OSGeo projects, which are used for particular tasks within the INSPIRE infrastructure. The presentation will reference certified OSGeo projects as well as projects from the broader OSGeo ecosystem which have not passed the incubation process yet. Each project will summarize the achievements over the last year of development with respect to INSPIRE and include a short report on future development. This will provide a comprehensive overview of features in the OSGeo community pipeline which will have direct impact on their usage for INSPIRE.

The Open Source Geospatial Foundation, or OSGeo, is a not-for-profit organization whose mission is to support and promote the collaborative development of open source geospatial software, data and education. Developers in turn have given technical feedback to the makers of the directive. As a result INSPIRE over time has evolved into an implementable real-world architecture.

Many members of the OSGeo development teams are located in Europe, and many of them are actively involved in implementing INSPIRE services and geo-portals. There has been a lot of volunteered and financial contribution to OSGeo projects to help implement the official INSPIRE specifications. With the help of many testers, users and community members, OSGeo projects are offering better INSPIRE support year after year.

This presentation is focused on the introduction of various popular OSGeo projects, which are used for particular tasks within the INSPIRE infrastructure. The presentation will reference certified OSGeo projects as well as projects from the broader OSGeo ecosystem which have not passed the incubation process yet. Each project will summarize the achievements over the last year of development with respect to INSPIRE and include a short report on future development. This will provide a comprehensive overview of features in the OSGeo community pipeline which will have direct impact on their usage for INSPIRE.

The Open Source Geospatial Foundation, or OSGeo, is a not-for-profit organization whose mission is to support and promote the collaborative development of open source geospatial software, data and education. The foundation provides organizational, legal and financial support to the broader open source geospatial community. It also serves as an independent legal entity to which community members can contribute code, funding and other resources, secure in the knowledge that their contributions will be maintained for public benefit. OSGeo also serves as an outreach and advocacy organization for the open source geospatial community, and provides a common forum and shared infrastructure for improving cross-project collaboration.

While OSGeo itself does not have any direct relationship to INSPIRE community, members of OSGeo foundation are often deeply involved in the world of the INSPIRE directive. Since the beginning of activities towards INSPIRE, people have been asking questions regarding whether their favorite open source software packages would be able to provide features and capabilities for implementing INSPIRE directive requirements.

Since many members of the OSGeo development teams are located in Europe, and many of them are actively involved in implementing INSPIRE services and geo-portals, there have been many efforts and contributions to OSGeo projects in the direction of adopting the implementation guidelines and the official INSPIRE specifications as those have been evolving through time. With the help of many testers, users and community members, OSGeo projects are offering better INSPIRE support year after year.

This presentation is focused on the introduction of various popular OSGeo projects, which are used for particular tasks within the INSPIRE infrastructure. This presentation will include allied projects as well as projects that are part of the OSGeo ecosystem but did not make it yet to the incubation process for various reasons. A brief account of what happened during the last year of development regarding the INSPIRE directive will be given. A short report of future developments will also be provided, in order to summarize features, which are already agreed in OSGeo communities and which will have direct impact on their usage for INSPIRE.

It wouldn't be a classic workshop format but rather a barcamp inside the conference. The aim is to put around a table people from OSGeo and people from INSPIRE, in order to understand each other's world.

After four successful years, we'll continue the OSGeo "hacking" event in Bolsena in an [http://www.conventobolsena.org/ Italian monastery] ([http://tinyurl.com/2t6zby see map location], and videos: [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9wrZrK64UIw 2008-video], [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mxox3AsjH6Q 2009-video] and [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Vjx06Rlols 2010-video]. The monastery is overlooking Lago Bolsena and offers space to about 25 people in small bedrooms :-) . It is one of the coolest places for such an event. Quiet, isolated, simple and serene. There's a good wireless and wired internet connection, further improved this year. It should be perfect for SVN, IRC and mail. Have a look yourself, including looking at the photo gallery.
For what the food concerns, we will have a cook who will take care of us :-) . There's a large dining space, but we will eat outside overlooking the lake if weather permits (very likely in June).

The all inclusive cost will be 550 Euro (Excl VAT) per person for the full week. You can stay all seven days and food (breakfast, lunch and dinner) is included in the price. As in previous years, we will go out for a city visit and a dinner on one of the evenings (also included).

The event will take place during the whole week (7 days), although the emphasis will probably be Monday to Friday for most participants.

There is no railway to Bolsena.
