FOSS4G 2009 – More than an international Geospatial Open Source Conference

The conference for Free and Open Source Software for Geospatial (FOSS4G) will be held from 20-23 October, 2009 in Sydney, Australia. _http://2009.foss4g.org <http://2009.foss4g.org/>_

Growing out of regional Open Source community meetings, the FOSS4G conference has been reborn in recent years as a meeting place for international geospatial experts to gather and discuss the problems and opportunities of the day. With themes ranging from the integration of Open Source with Proprietary systems to the building of Spatial Data Infrastructures and application of Open Geospatial Standards, the conference offers a unique opportunity to tap into the wealth of knowledge and experience available among the Open Source developers, sponsors and geospatial professionals of all persuasions.

    Highlights from FOSS4G 2009 include:

• The Climate Change Integration Plugfest (CCIP)*: FOSS4G will launch the

OGC's Climate Change Integration Plugfest (CCIP), which demonstrates standards based interoperability between Open Source and Proprietary geospatial applications. It consists of servers with multiple virtual machines, each installed with geospatial applications offering standards based web services. There will be many opportunities to review SDI components, and talk directly to vendors and implementers about the effectiveness of different approaches and components.

• FOSS4G Live DVD*: Live DVDs, based on the Xubuntu operating system and

including Geospatial Open Source Software, will be given to all delegates. Users can boot a Live DVD on their computer and trial the software without installing or affecting the existing system.

• Installfest*: The informal Installfest pre-dinner slot will give

delegates the opportunity to meet in a common area and install a wide variety of FOSS software on their laptops, EEE PC or any other system they care to bring in. Community members will be on hand to assist with any troubles and provide help and insight into the software.

• Workshops and Tutorials*: Workshops and Tutorials allow presenters to

lead attendees through applications, integration solutions, or other topics in an interactive environment.

• Presentations*: The meat of the conference is its presentations.

Drawing on a huge community of local, regional and international experts we will discuss some of the most current and poignant topics in the industry today. Expect to hear honest presentations discussing weaknesses as well as strengths, like the famous Web Map Server performance shootout.

• Birds of a Feather*: Rooms have been set aside for semi-organised

meetings between like minded groups. Some prominent community initiatives started in prior FOSS4G Birds of a Feather sessions.

• Code Sprint*: The weekend after FOSS4G is reserved for the Hackers'

Code Sprint. Hackers will be locked in a basement with lots of bandwidth, pizzas and coke. (Well, maybe something better than that, but we don't want to spoil the mystical hacker image).

In deze interactieve demonstratie is het mogelijk alle afzonderlijke componenten van de ruimtelijke data infrastructuur in in detail te bekijken en te beoordelen. U komt in aanraking met leveranciers en implementatie partners en er wordt gesproken over de effectiviteit van verschillende methodes en componenten.

• De FOSS4G Live DVD*: Live DVD's, gebaseerd on het Xubuntu besturingssysteem voorgeinstalleerd met open source software, zullen worden uitgereikt aan alle aanwezigen. De Live DVD can worden opgestart op de computer zonder deze te installeren waardoor kennis gemaakt kan worden met de software zonder dat er aanpassingen op de computer worden gedaan.

• Installeer sessie*: De informele installeer sessie die zal plaatsvinden voor het diner geeft deelnemers de mogelijkheid in een gemeenschappelijke ruimte allerlei FOSS software te installeren op meegebrachte laptops, netbooks, PDA's en andere mobiele apparaten. Leden van de OSGeo gemeenschap zullen ondersteunen bij problemen en hulp en tips delen over de software.

• Workshops en Tutorials*: Workshops en tutorials geven sprekers de mogelijkheid om aanwezigen door applicaties, oplossingen, praktijk voorbeelden en andere onderwerpen te leiden in een interactieve omgeving.

• Presentaties*: De hoofdmoot van de conferentie zal bestaan uit presentaties.

Puttend uit een grote groep lokale en internationale professionals zullen enkele van de meest actuele onderwerpen worden besproken die de industrie van vandaag bezig houden. Verwacht eerlijke, open presentaties waarin zowel voor- als nadelen aan bod zullen komen

• Birds of a Feather*: Er zijn ruimtes beschikbaar voor niet formeel georganiseerde besprekingen van kennisgroepen die spontaan ontstaan. saillant detail: Enkele van de meest prominente activiteiten van de OSGeo gemeenschap zijn in dergelijke vrije sessies ontstaan.

• Code Sprint*: Het weekend na de FOSS4G is gereserveerd voor de Hackers'

FOSS4G 2009 ～国際地理空間オープンソース会議～

FOSS4Gは，地域的なオープンソース・コミュニティ活動をへて，数年前からは世界各国の地理空間技術の専門家が一堂に会し，現在の問題や機会について論議するための会議へと変化しています。会議のテーマは，オープンソースとオープンソースでないシステムの統合から，地理空間的インフラストラクチャーの構築やオープンな地理空間標準の活用まで広範にわたります。この会議では，オープンソースの開発者，スポンサー，あらゆる地理空間の専門家が集まることにより，多くの知識と経験に触れる機会を提供します。

FOSS4G 2009 のハイライト

Climate Change Integration Plugfest： FOSS4Gでは，OGC 気候変動統合プラグフェスタ（CCIP）を開催する予定です。これは，標準に準拠することにより，オープンソースとオープンソースでない地理空間アプリケーションの相互運用を実演するものです。CCIPは，それぞれに標準に準拠したWebサービスを提供する地理空間アプリケーションを含んだ，複数のヴァーチャル・マシーンが走るサーバーにより構成されます。ここは，SDI (Spatial Data Infrastructure)構成要素のレビューや，異なる手法と構成要素を用いることの有効性を，ベンダーと開発者が直接に話し合う機会ともいえます。
