This page discusses the Coordinate Reference Systems used in Brazil. It started as an attempt to reach a consensus on the transformation parameters that should be submitted to the "upstream" of open source programs such as proj4, libgeotiff and gdal.

The discussion was held mostly on the brasil@lists.osgeo.org mailing list starting April 25, 2012 (http://lists.osgeo.org/pipermail/brasil/2012-April/000657.html).

Coordinate Reference Systems used in Brazil

Brazil has used various reference systems. Brazilian law # XXXX determines that, starting from XXXX, the SIRGAS 2000 sistem will be used exclusively.

Observations

To use the UTM projection, substitute "+proj=longlat" with the desired projection parameter, zone and units for the area of interest For example:

"+proj=utm +zone=23 +south +units=m" for zone 23s

or

"+proj=utm +zone=21 +north +units=m" for zone 21n

NTV2 grids (*.gsb files) are distributed with the Progrid software package from IBGE (ftp://geoftp.ibge.gov.br/aplicativos/transformacao_coordenadas/).


Observações

Para utilizar a projeção UTM, substitua "+proj=longlat" pelos parâmetros de projeção, zona e unidades para a zona de interesse.

Por exemplo, a string do SAD69:

+proj=longlat +ellps=aust_SA +towgs84=-67.35,+3.88,-38.22

Pode ser transformada em

+proj=utm +zone=23 +south +units=m +ellps=aust_SA +towgs84=-67.35,+3.88,-38.22

para uso na zona UTM 23s ou em

+proj=utm +zone=21 +north +units=m +ellps=aust_SA +towgs84=-67.35,+3.88,-38.22

para uso na zona UTM 21n

Comparação entre o método grid (ntv2) e parâmetros towgs84: SAD69 para SIRGAS2000

Os arquivos *.gsb são distribuídos junto com o software progrid do IBGE (ftp://geoftp.ibge.gov.br/aplicativos/transformacao_coordenadas/) e devem ser copiados para a pasta "/usr/share/proj" para esses parâmetros funcionarem com o proj.

AVISO: o proj não dá erro se você esquecer de copiar o arquivo ou errar o nome do arquivo na string de conversão. Cheque os resultados antes de utilizá-los.


Pendências

  • testar as transformações do tipo grid (ntv2)
  • preencher os campos marcados com XXXX
  • completar a documentação dos sistemas de coordenadas
  • atingir consenso na lista antes de mandar pedidos de correção ou complementação para os desenvolvedores upstream ou para a EPSG.
