    • We are working on 2008 version of our training note listed at Educational Content Inventory
    • We are interested in updating, improving and enhancing the Training Note and also the Mandriva 2007 or 2008 FOSS4G Toolkit CD that comes with the training note. If you are interested to join this effort please add you came and contact at venka at osgeo dot org

  • Title: Tutorials for using FOSS4G tools employed in 4th year student projects, Carleton University
    • Authors: Students in GEOM4008 "Advanced Topics in Geographic Information Systems"
    • In Fall, 2007, students in this class had to provide documentation to go with their final projects, which included explanations on how to use any FOSS4G tools they found useful. The idea was good, but not fully developed by the instructor, making it difficult to publish the results. The next version of the course will explicitly include a component requiring online publishing of tutorials.

  • Title: E-course on FOSS GIS

    • I'm planning on elaborating an e-course to accompany a four-month training course on FOSS GIS, mainly based on GRASS, but also others.

  • Title: Exploring and interpolating fields
    • Authors: Maria Antonia Brovelli and Markus Neteler
    • Topic: Many observations are point-wise (i.e.: terrain height, temperature, humidity, pollutant concentration,...) but generally what we need is the corresponding continuous thematic maps. For instance, if we have leveling or LIDAR measurements, we could be interested, for many applications (hydrology, ecology, radio and radar propagation, geoscience, landscape planning, terrain-guided navigation systems, ...), in the corresponding land elevation field and its representation, the digital terrain model. In the theoretical part, we will teach how to explore spatial data (data distribution, global trends, spatial autocorrelation, clues for outlier presence) and how to discriminate (by means of cross-validation techniques) the best method to interpolate them to obtain the best digital model of the corresponding field. All the exercises and the examples of the course are at the moment solved with a proprietary GIS and will be also solved by means of GRASS.

    • An introductory course exploring the many capabilities of PostGIS, considerations when planning for using PostGIS and myriad compatible interfaces for accessing PostGIS including QGIS and Google Earth. I would also be interested in offers for collaboration on this project.
