High school geography teachers workshop. 22 PC's available. UCT Geomatics department


We would like to organise the following as well.

  • Public lectures on FOSS GIS given by FOSS GIS delegates. One or more people volunteer to give a flashy lecture and demo at UCT great hall or civic centre, free to the public and well marketed.
  • FOSS GIS workshops for
    • Government officials
  • Install and configure (Ubuntu and) FOSS GIS software stack and data at schools / local municipalities around Cape Town
  • a public talk and demo in a township that's a wow! For all the kids
  • a field mapping or participatory GIS exercise in a township

These activities would be held at schools, universities or other public facilities in and around Cape Town.

Technical Visits

Monday morning

Option 1

  • Sunspace in Technopark ( 1.5h visit) leaving 8h00. Back 12h30

Available for 22 people - still considering costs involved for visit.


Option 2

  • Chief Directorate: Surveys and Mapping (1.5h visit)


Friday morning

Option 1

  • Houwteq Satellite Integration Facility in Grabouw – Institute for satellite and software application

(1.5h visit) leaving 8h00. Back 12h30 Available for 22 people


Option 2

  • Wine tasting on wine farm in Grabouw. (1.5h visit) leving 8h00. Back 12h30

Francois Knight from Agri Informatic will present an interesting presentation on how GIS is used in the wine industry Available for 22 people
