GeoForAll FOSS4G Como meetings, tentative agendas and who will be there. Please add your name to the sessions if you plan to attend, and feel free to add agenda items if you have something you want discussed. -- email me (cschweik AT Pubpol.umass.edu) if you have questions or concerns.


1. GeoForAll pre-conference meeting

When: Tuesday July 14th, 8:30-11:30 am

Where: Hall of Via Natta building

Discussion topics (order may change):

  • 1) Certification: Phil Davis has agreed to give us an update on where we are on the certification discussion and lead further discussion on that topic. (Thanks Phil. Suggested pre-meeting readings: Phil -- gtcm curriculum guide, Arnulf -- geoint workforce).
    • A model for OS Geospatial Education (result of Master's Thesis by Tanzeel Khan, Stuttgart University of Applied Sciences)
  • 2) Educational content curation strategies -platforms for sharing curriculum
    • QGIS course collaboration (raised by Lene Fischer)
  • 3) GeoForAll labs expansion to Schools (also ideas/inputs to support Teacher Training ) [1]
  • 4) GeoforAll support/partnership with Government, Industry, NGO's [2] . Create a seperate table to list all government, industry , NGO labs (there are currently 6 of them in our list to be moved to this new table)
  • 5) GeoForAll Membership criteria [3] (do we need yearly annual summary reports from labs? Shall we include schools, government organisations, industry who support Geo for All principles ?
  • 6) Update the current membership list to active members (How can we be more inclusive? who decides which lab gets removed? What is the criteria we use )
  • 7) Re-assess the need for regional mailing lists (is anybody using them at all? Are they obstacle to our global collaboration goal?)
  • 8) Update on grant-getting efforts
  • 9) Updates on publications (journals etc )
  • 10) Decide on agenda item priorities for BOF 1, which has the largest group signed up and will only be 1 hour.

3. GeoForAll Europe Meeting

When: Thursday July 16th, 5:30

Where: room 3.5 at Politecnico di Milano

(This is a good idea... any other regions have a group attending and want to meet up?)

  • collaborations between the European and US labs, students exchange and funding opportunities

4. GeoForAll Bird's of a Feather 2

When: Friday July 17th, 12:00-13:00

5. GeoForAll Grant Sprint

  • US NSF Smart City proposal (Charlie Schweik, others with GeoForAll city analytics group)
  • Hopefully some discussion by European participants on another grant effort to support GeoForAll efforts (anyone working on this? add your name and topic)
