Memorandum of Understanding 2018

This document is a DRAFT: discussions between the OSGeo and TIB are ongoing
The goal is for both parties to sign the MOU at FOSSGIS/Code Sprint in Bonn in March 2018

Memorandum of Understanding between

The Open Source Geospatial Foundation (OSGeo)
and
German National Library of Science and Technology (TIB)

Background

  • TIB runs a web-based platform for quality-tested scientific videos from the realms of technology/engineering, architecture, chemistry, information technology, mathematics and physics, the TIB AV-Portal. A key feature of the portal is the use of different automated video analyses that allow the search in the spoken and written word. All videos are assigned a clear citation link (DOI) and digitally preserved
  • The local committee of FOSS4G-Boston 2017 as part of their final report stressed the importance of video archives
  • OSGeo promotes TIB as a resource on the new OSGeo website
  • More information on the history of the TIB-OSGeo relationship through the years can be found on the OSGeo wiki

Purpose

The purpose of this Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) is to establish a collaborative relationship between the Open Source Geospatial Foundation (OSGeo) and the German National Library of Science and Technology (TIB). Both parties to this MOU share the goal of helping to openly share and discover geo-information with all communities.

The MOU will cover the following proposals and topics:

  • To assist in developing an open archive for discovery of FOSS4G event materials
  • To preserve past scientific documents and materials as part of OSGeo foundation projects
  • To work closely with existing initiatives such as GeoForAll to help archive necessary geospatial research
  • To enhance the discoverability of OSGeo related content by research and development activities (including automated metadata enrichment. linked open data and ontology-based approaches).

Period of Agreement

This MOU will be reviewed biennially by both parties at which time revisions may be made and the agreement renewed.
