CITY, STATE OR PROVINCE, COUNTRY, July DAY — The Open Source Geospatial Foundation (OSGeo) announced today that MapBender, DESCRIPTION, has GRADUATED FROM...? Just six months after its inception, the Foundation is already starting to impact the geospatial industry, BLAH BLAH. SENTENCE ABOUT OSCON AND GEOWEB.

SOMETHING MapBender SOMETHING

<<Text to come from Arnulf: what MapBender is, why it is an important tool, what graduation from Inclubator means. Should include quote from Arnulf, or some Big Name that uses the stuff>>

OSGeo Hitting its Stride

The Foundation was formed early in 2006 by PEOPLE AND STUFF with the aim of DOING GOOD THINGS. Already the Foundation has NUMBER projects under incubation, all open source tools and applications that range from FOO to BAR. "WE'RE DOING REALLY WELL," says Frank Warmerdam, chair of the Foundation's board. "I'M PLEASED THAT WE HAVE BEEN ABLE TO ACCOMPLISH <SOME NICE, SPECIFIC THING>, AND SOMETHING ELSE TOO."

SOMETHING about the Foundation now having +1200 members signed up on its website and a very active community. SOMETHING ABOUT OUR DIVERSE MEMBERSHIP AND VOLUNTEERISM.

OSGeo on the Road

OSGeo is reaching out to the geospatial community to FEED THEM THE KOOL-AID. Following on it's well-publicized success at Where 2.0 earlier this summer, OSGeo will be at two other events this month. The Foundation is hosting a booth at OSCON.. DETAILS.. INCLUDING PersonA speaking about X and PersonB speaking about Y. The same week, OSGeo members MPG and IANT will be presenting at GeoWeb -- Gerlek will talk about LIME-GREEN BEVERAGES and Turton will talk about SOMETHING which USES OPEN SOURCE to SAVE PLANET. <need to get OK from Ian on this!!>

About the Open Source Geospatial Foundation

The Open Source Geospatial Foundation, or OSGeo, is a not-for-profit organization whose mission is to support and promote the collaborative development of open geospatial technologies and data. The foundation provides financial, organizational and legal support to the broader open source geospatial community. It also serves as an independent legal entity to which community members can contribute code, funding and other resources, secure in the knowledge that their contributions will be maintained for public benefit.

OSGeo also serves as an outreach and advocacy organization for the open source geospatial community, and provides a common forum and shared infrastructure for improving cross-project collaboration. The foundation's projects are all freely available and useable under an OSI-certified open source license.
