background and interests

Within OSGeo, Kristin is very interested in building a stronger and more diverse community by making OSGeo events, discussions, and products more accessible to a wider group of people. She has worked with a number of conferences (FOSS4G, FOSS4G-NA, SOTM, SOTM-US) to help design and/or execute travel grants and/or scholarships to help people attend events that otherwise may have been out of reach.

Kristin works with faculty and students at Reed College on all-things-analytical, focusing on statistical + computational software, research design, and data management and presentation. She is also the main geospatial + mapping resource on campus, where she works to integrate different types of geo/spatial work across the curriculum. Kristin is particularly interested in the intersection of GIS and teaching/education and increasing access to all-things-geospatial across a wide group of users. She holds a M.Sc. in Fisheries & Wildlife (EEBB track) from Michigan State University, a B.A. in Biology/Ecology from the University of Montana, and a graduate certificate in GIS from Portland State University. Outside of work, you can probably find her rowing a boat, riding her bike, growing/making good food, brewing beer, reading something interesting, or running around outside.
