I am a forest scientist specialising in remote sensing and geospatial sciences. I work for Coillte, the Irish State Forestry Board in Ireland on forest inventory and monitoring applications using open-source tools.
I started using GRASS-GIS/R as part of my graduate research, and since then have been actively using, testing and following other open-source projects including GDAL/OGR, UMN Mapserver and QGIS. More recently I have been involved in the development of geospatial applications applied to forest inventory using GDAL, Orfeo Toolbox and pktools.
Along with my colleague, Pieter Kempeneers, we co-wrote a book entitle Open Source Geospatial Tools - Applications in Earth Observation that was published by Springer Verlag in 2015, further details available [1] here

I am currently Associate Editor for Forestry of the IEEE and NASA sponsored Earthzine and Associate Editor of the European Journal of Remote Sensing.
