Colleagues: Please list here any plans you have to develop content over the next year.

  • Title: Introduction to remote sensing using FOSS.
    • Author(s): Ned Horning, Charlie Schweik
    • Estimated date of completion: Not sure... Fall 2008?
    • Language: English
  • Title: Training Notes on Spatial Data Sharing using FOSS 2008
    • Author(s): Venkatesh Raghavan, Shinji Masumoto, Sarawut Ninsawat, Daisuke Yoshida, Susumu Nonogaki, Willington Siabato, Add yourself
    • We are working on 2008 version of our training note listed in the URL: http://wiki.osgeo.org/index.php/Educational_Content_Inventory
    • We are interested in updating, improving and enhancing the Training Note and also the Mandriva 2007 or 2008 FOSS4G Toolkit CD that comes with the training note. If you are interested to join this effort please add you came and contact at venka at osgeo dot org
    • Estimated date of completion: Spring 2008?
    • Language: ????
  • Title: Tutorials for using FOSS4G tools employed in 4th year student projects, Carleton University
    • Authors: Students in GEOM4008 "Advanced Topics in Geographic Information Systems"
    • In Fall, 2007, students in this class had to provide documentation to go with their final projects, which included explanations on how to use any FOSS4G tools they found useful. The idea was good, but not fully developed by the instructor, making it difficult to publish the results. The next version of the course will explicitly include a component requiring online publishing of tutorials.
    • Estimated data of completion: projects due December 2008, will be available online Winter 2009
    • Language: English
  • Title: E-course on FOSS GIS
    • Author: Moritz Lennert
    • I'm planning on elaborating an e-course to accompany a four-month training course on FOSS GIS, mainly based on GRASS, but also others.
    • Language: French
    • Estimated date of completion: Spring 2008 (course begins April 14th, content might evolve throughout the course)
  • Title: Exploring and interpolating fields
    • Authors: Maria Antonia Brovelli and Markus Neteler
    • Topic: Many observations are point-wise (i.e.: terrain height, temperature, humidity, pollutant concentration,...) but generally what we need is the corresponding continuous thematic maps. For instance, if we have leveling or LIDAR measurements, we could be interested, for many applications (hydrology, ecology, radio and radar propagation, geoscience, landscape planning, terrain-guided navigation systems, ...), in the corresponding land elevation field and its representation, the digital terrain model. In the theoretical part, we will teach how to explore spatial data (data distribution, global trends, spatial autocorrelation, clues for outlier presence) and how to discriminate (by means of cross-validation techniques) the best method to interpolate them to obtain the best digital model of the corresponding field. All the exercises and the examples of the course are at the moment solved with a proprietary GIS and will be also solved by means of GRASS.

  • Title: Geospatial Analysis, Modeling and Visualization (title may change)
    • Author: Helena Mitasova
    • Two semester graduate level course focused on methods and applications in earth sciences, natural resources, civil, coastal and agricultural engineering. Lectures and labs.

    • Estimated date of completion: Fall 2008
  • Title: QGIS and GRASS orientation workshop
    • Author: Scott Mitchell
    • Introductory workshop highlighting capabilities of QGIS, QGIS-GRASS integration, and processing possibilities with GRASS - intended for people with at least beginner's understanding of GIS
    • Language: English
    • Estimated date of completion: Initial version available as of March 2008, will refine in Summer
  • Title: Introduction to GIS and Mapping
    • Author(s): Paul Flemming
    • Looking at developing material for elementary and secondary schools for use in geography and social science classes. Anyone with ideas or suggestions on how this could be approached, any help would be appreciated
    • Estimated date of completion: Not sure... Early 2009?
