Darren Flach, founder of Spatial Edge Consulting and SAIT Bachelor of Geographic Information Systems graduate, will discuss his proposed approach to creating a centralized GIS data repository of vector files using a cloud-native database service. The idea of having an organized, centralized, secure, free/low cost, cloud-based geodatabase for use by a local install of QGIS is enticing. Is it doable? Is it practical?
Over the course of this project he intends to discover the pros and cons of this solution and if this is indeed a better solution than spatial files organized in subfolders on local hard drives or on a mapped cloud-based drive.
The presentation will leave lots of time for discussion.
