Applying discounts: The Conference Secretariat will create a secret list of codes for each discount category and supply the correct code to each registrant where applicable, to be used when registering at the [www.foss4g2008.org conference website]

Presenters

  • There are no discounts for people who are doing the 25-minute Presentations

Posters

  • There are no discounts for people who are presenting Posters

Panelists and Lighting Talks

  • There are no discounts for plenary panelists
  • There are no discounts for plenary lightning speakers

Sponsors

  • Sponsors receive complimentary registrations and discounts to "the Conference" (not Conference + Workshops) as detailed in the Sponsorship & Exhibitor Prospectus
  • Sponsors may add workshops to their complimentary registrations using the Workshops Only rate

Exhibitors

  • Exhibitors receive a complimentary registration and discounts to "the Conference" (not Conference + Workshops) as detailed in the Sponsorship & Exhibitor Prospectus
  • Exhibitors may add workshops to their complimentary registration using the Workshops Only rate

Workshop Instructors

  • Workshop instructors receive credit for registration for "the Conference" (not Conference + Workshops)
  • If there is more than one instructor, then there will be two credits available
  • Workshop instructors may attend another Workshop, but only as an observer at the back of the classroom (subject to available space)
  • The credit is for registration, and does not represent a specific Rand amount
  • The credit cannot be divided

Lab Instructors

  • Lab instructors receive credit for 50% registration for "the Conference" (not Conference + Workshops)
  • If there is more than one instructor, then there will be two credits available

  • LOC core members receive credit for registration for "the Conference" (not Conference + Workshops)
  • The credit is for registration, and does not represent a specific Rand amount
  • The credit cannot be divided
  • Conference committee members may add workshops to their complimentary registrations using the Workshops Only rate
  • Qualification as a contributing member of the LOC is on the recommendation of the Conference Chair.

Workshop Committee

  • Workshop committee members receive credit for registration for "the Conference" (not Conference + Workshops)
  • The credit is for registration, and does not represent a specific Rand amount
  • The credit cannot be divided
  • If the member is also part of the Conference Committee, they do not receive a second credit
  • Workshop committee members may add workshops to their complimentary registrations using the Workshops Only rate
  • Qualification as a contributing member of the workshop committee is on the recommendation of the Workshop Coordinator.

Volunteers

Below is the 2007 policy - Russell please edit as this develops for 2008 (and then remove this line)

  • Volunteers agree to work one full day (possibly broken up into two "shifts" that may fall on different days) to receive credit
  • Volunteers receive credit for registration for "the Conference" (not Conference + Workshops)
  • The credit is for registration, and does not represent a specific dollar amount
  • The credit cannot be divided
  • The credit cannot be transferred
  • Students from South African post-secondary educational institutions will receive first preference for volunteer slots
  • Volunteers can be recommended to the Volunteer coordinator by the Conference Committee
  • Only as many volunteers as are needed will be accepted

Other Discount Categories

Below are items proposed by [User: gfleming] for discussion and approval by the LOC. They will be fixed latest 30 April.

  • Practising school teachers (show proof) 50% discount, applicable to Conference and Day rates. Workshops full price.
  • University and other tertiary institution students (show proof) 50% discount, applicable to Conference and Day rates. Workshops full price. This category only opens in June? depending on available space.
