USB testing required if we are to hand out OSGeo-Live on a USB at FOSS4G
13 August 2010
The FOSS4G Organising Committee have budget to distribute OSGeo-Live either on a DVD or USB to all delegates.
Ideally we would like to distribute on a USB as it boots up faster and is a more useful medium, however the USB version has had very little testing, and out of the 5 or so computers tested, we've had reports of at least 2 computers which can't boot from the USB.
If we can get test results from enough people by the end of this coming weekend, Sunday 15 August, OSGeo-Live will be given to some, or all FOSS4G delegates.
Here is the deal:
If we get:
- 40+ Test results, from a variety of computers, and the vast majority show-stopping issues are resolved
- An OSGeo-Live USB will be handed out to every FOSS4G delegate
- (Based on early results, I don't expect we can achieve this)
- 15+ test results, from different computers, showing a reasonable number of computers work with a USB test
- we will hand out OSGeo-Live USBs to the (more forgiving) FOSS4G presenters. Remaining delegates will be given a Live-DVD.
How to test a USB
- Download and burn the USB as per: http://wiki.osgeo.org/wiki/Live_GIS_Disc_Quick_Start#Install_to_a_Live_USB_Stick
- Describe your test results here: http://wiki.osgeo.org/wiki/Live_GIS_Disc_Testing#USB_testing
- Optionally also tell us your experience on IRC or email:
