EntwicklerInnentreffen in Wien für Freie und Open Source Software für Geoinformationssysteme
Jeff McKenna, Vorsitzender des OSGeo Foundation Board of Directors, sagt "The Foundation wishes to thank the Viennese community for organizing such an important international event, and welcoming software developers and leaders from all over world into your community. The benefits to the geospatial Open Source community from these 5 days of software development in Vienna will be felt by hundreds of thousands of users all over the world, for years to come. This event is one of the most important geospatial events of the year."

Developer meeting in Vienna for free and open source geospatial software
March 24th 2014
A life without online maps in the internet like those of the wien.at-City map [0] cannot be imagined anymore. In many cases those applications rely on Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) like the ones which will be worked on in Vienna. FOSS provides the rights to study, change and distribute the software to anyone and for any purpose.
For several years the Open Source Geospatial Foundation (OSGeo) [1] has been organizing a yearly Code Sprint, a gathering of the "C Tribe" OSGeo projects. Leading developers of popular software projects like MapServer, QGIS, GRASS, GDAL, PostGIS, PDAL, pycsw, and many more get together to discuss new ideas, hack, decide, tackle large geospatial problems, etc. simply to have fun.
In 2014 after Toronto [7], New York [6], Montreal [5], Island Wood [4], and Boston [3] the Code Sprint stops in Europe for the first time, more precisely in Vienna from March 24th to 28th 2014 [2]. Besides almost 70 registered developers, more than half of the members of the OSGeo Foundation Board of Directors will be present including the current president Jeff McKenna.
"It is a great honor and privilege to be able to welcome so many well-known OSGeo developers in Vienna." states Stephan Meißl, organizer of the event, excitedly and continues: "At the same time it is an excellent opportunity for the Austrian, in particular the Viennese, Open Source community to network and show international presence."
Jeff McKenna, OSGeo's President, says, "The Foundation wishes to thank the Viennese community for organizing such an important international event, and welcoming software developers and leaders from all over world into your community. The benefits to the geospatial Open Source community from these 5 days of software development in Vienna will be felt by hundreds of thousands of users all over the world, for years to come. This event is one of the most important geospatial events of the year."
