OSGeo Seal Design Contest
OSGeo just turned 10 and as a gift to ourselves, we would like to invite the artistic minds in our community to develop the official seal for our foundation (in line with our bylaws). This seal will be used on official documents, such as the student award certificates at FOSS4G Events.
Anyone may submit artwork. We are looking for the best, so spread the word to your family and friends.
The winning designer will receive a free pass to FOSS4G-2016.
Contest Parameters
All artwork must be uploaded to the OSGeo wiki and listed on this site by 11:59pm GMT, Feb 20th, 2016.
A short list of submissions will be selected before the general vote.
While designing, please keep in mind that your design has to work as a seal in black and white.
Submission Format
Upload a high resolution (at least 1200x1200 px) version of your design to the OSGeo wiki and list it on this site. Additional SVG versions will be appreciated.
Legal
The Open Source Geospatial Foundation will acquire ownership of the winning design by assignment of copyright, and the winning designer will disclaim any trademarks and without limitation all other rights related to the design (paperwork will be required).
By submitting a design for entry in the competition, the designer acknowledges that he/she is the person that made the design and is its rightful owner.
The designer also certifies that the design is completely original and does not infringe upon the rights of any third party and that it does not violate any copyright.
Voting
All members of OSGeo (anyone with an account on the OSGeo.org website) will be allowed to place a single vote. In the case of a tie, the Board will have the final say.
Details will be announced once the design has been accepted and placed online for review.
Submissions
Source images, in various formats: https://svn.osgeo.org/osgeo/marketing/logo/
Submission 1
I propose that the existing OSGeo Compass (or one of the existing variants) be considered as the OSGeo Seal. My reasoning is that our existing logo is good, works well as a seal, and is consistent with OSGeo's branding with helps retain a recognisable image leading to strong branding.
As I've done no work creating this image, I'm taking myself out of the running for accepting any awards.

Submission 2
I propose to use the compass but add our foundation name as well.
If you want to edit this one, you can get if from https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/42637169/OSGeo_seal.svg
Since I'm involved in running this contest, I'm taking myself out of the running for accepting any awards.
Submission 3
I think Anita's submission is great, but I don't like the interruption between the 'O' and the 'S' of 'OSGeo', so I propose a small modification to Anita's submission.
Since I just did a little modification to an existing proposal, that took me just 5 minutes, I do not want to be considered for any awards too.
You can find the SVG version from here: https://oc.cwillmes.de/index.php/s/eGUlRqCbsPaKOXf
Submission 4
This submission is made out of the official OSGeo vector logo and the bold Bitstream Vera Font (available from GNOME and BitStream Inc.).
SVG, PDF and PNG versions are available from here.
Submission 5
Designed by the creator of the GeoForAll logo, this version of the seal is again made out of the official OSGeo vector logo but it introduces a new graphical element around the small central compass, which recalls what OSGeo is: a community of people.
SVG, PDF and PNG versions can be downloaded from here.

Submission 6
Another try with more details, using both Bitstream Vera Roman and Bitstream Vera Bold fonts. SVG, PDF and PNG versions available.
