    1. My Mission

Empowering Open Source.

    1. Biography

Dirk Stenger is an expert in designing and implementing SDI solutions based on Open Source software, OGC standards and cloud architecture.

He is an active community member of the OSGeo project deegree contributing as a committer and regularly participating in TMC meetings and code sprints.

He also played an active role in TEAM Engine, an OSGeo community project that provides a testing facility for executing test suites, and served as Technical Lead of the OGC Compliance Tools (CITE) until 2025.

He has been speaker on multiple FOSS4G and FOSSGIS-Konferenz (conference of German speaking OSGeo local chapter) events and is an active and regular participant.

His journey with Open Source geospatial started in the late 2000s when he discovered Open Source GIS projects like PostGIS, deegree, GeoServer, MapServer, QGIS and gvSIG while studying at Universität Bonn. From that point on, his fascination for Open Source software started to grow. His first participation in an OSGeo event was the FOSSGIS-Konferenz in Osnabrück in 2010. This was the starting point followed by an ongoing deep dive into Open Source geospatial topics (from conceptual questions, software development and testing to community work), discovery of many Open Source projects and numerous further OSGeo events.

He works at lat/lon GmbH as a software developer and consultant since 2012.
