Daniel P. Ames, Ph.D., P.E. is a Professor of Geosciences at Idaho State University at the Idaho Falls, Idaho campus. Dr. Ames is the program director for the ISU Master's of Science in Geographic Information Science and is the project leader for the open source MapWindow GIS project. MapWindow GIS is a Microsoft .NET based, extensible desktop application used heavily in environmental modeling decision support systems in the United States and elsewhere. The MapWindow GIS project is working towards preparing an application for OSGeo incubator status.
