USB testing required if we are to hand out OSGeo-Live on a USB at FOSS4G?
13 August 2010
OSGeo-Live now has 43 of the best GeoSpatial Open Source applications packaged on it, along with marketing docs, many quick starts, and overviews of the key OGC standards.
The FOSS4G Organising Committee have budget to distribute OSGeo-Live on a USB for all delegates, but we have insufficient testing of the USB to be comfortable to let this go ahead.
If we can get test results from enough people by the end of this coming weekend, Sunday 15 August, we give every delegate at FOSS4G OSGeo-Live on a USB, otherwise we roll back to the stable and well tested DVD format.
Here is the deal:
If we get:
- 30+ Test results, from a variety of computers, and all show-stopping issues are resolved
- An OSGeo-Live USB will be handed out to every FOSS4G delegate
- 10+ test results, from different computers, we will hand out OSGeo-Live USBs to the (more forgiving) FOSS4G presenters. Remaining delegates will be given a Live-DVD.
How to test a USB
- Download and burn the USB as per: http://wiki.osgeo.org/wiki/Live_GIS_Disc_Quick_Start#Install_to_a_Live_USB_Stick
- Describe your test results here: http://wiki.osgeo.org/wiki/Live_GIS_Disc_Testing#USB_testing
- Packages will be hanging out at irc://freenode.net#osgeolive if you have questions or feedback
