ISO-TC211 Liaison
The International Organization for Standardization - Technical Committee 211 Geographic information/Geomatics (ISO TC211) and OSGeo are distinctive organizations with individual goals and visions. This page describes the OSGeo and ISO TC211 liaison, as well as OSGeo participation in ISO TC211.
About ISO TC211

ISO/TC 211 is a standard technical committee formed within ISO, tasked with covering the areas of digital geographic information and geomatics. It is responsible for preparation of a series of International Standards and Technical Specifications numbered in the number range starting at ISO-19101.
Liaison
OSGeo and ISO TC211 established a Category A liaison on 2020-07-31. The liaison was announced as part of the OSGeo 2020 Annual General Meeting, and more formally announced on the OSGeo Foundation News (2020-12-15) as well as the OSGeo Discuss and Standards Mailing lists (2020-12-15) in conjunction with ISO TC211. Note that there are also liaisons from ISO/TC 211 to OSGeo.
OSGeo holds a Category A liaison with ISO TC211 (as per https://www.iso.org/sites/directives/current/part1/index.xhtml#_idTextAnchor093), which is defined as:
Organizations that make an effective contribution to the work of the technical committee or subcommittee for questions dealt with by this technical committee or subcommittee.

OSGeo Participation
As a liaison, OSGeo:
- is welcome to participate in all projects with no limit to number of slots/seats
- can comment in the ballots on all ongoing projects
- does not have a vote in the ballots (right reserved for the P-Members)
