Geospatial Integration Showcase

The Geospatial Integration Showcase is a practical demonstration of Application and Data Interoperability which underpins FOSS4G presentations and workshops and provides a platform for future initiatives, including:

  • Testing suite programs
  • Spatial Data Infrastructures
  • Open Data programs
  • An OSGeo demo CD (often called Live CD)
  • Future conferences
  • Mashups and Boot Camps

FOSS4G's status as an international high profile event, attracting the best of Geospatial Open Source and Open Standards will prove to be an prime target for many organisations toying with initiating a Spatial Data Infrastructure.

Direct FOSS4G goals

The showcase direct goals are:

  • To demonstrate interoperability between the full stack of Open Source and Proprietary Geospatial applications.
  • To facilitate cross-project comparisons & testing
  • To provide baseline applications to underpin presentations and workshops
  • To provide a catalyst to encourage data custodians to publish their data into the Spatial Data Infrastructure & facilitate mashup applications

Long term goals

The showcase will become a significant asset if managed to ensure the long term viability of the showcase. Participants will be strongly encouraged to ensure their contributions have a perpetual impact. This may be by incorporating the contribution into an existing Open Source project, or by delivering services with a long term services agreement.

The showcase long term goals are:

  • To simplify deployment and use of Geospatial Data.
  • To facilitate development of Spatial Data Infrastructures

Open Data

Web Services

The showcase will consist of:

  • Geographic datasets, available under an open license
  • Geospatial databases
  • Geospatial services
  • Geospatial clients

Central to FOSS4G 2009 will be an Integration Testbed demostrating the integration of Geospatial applicaitons both Open Source and Proprietary with data from freely available web services.

The testbed aims to demostrate how easy it is to integrate Open Source and Propreitary

Key themes for the testbed are:

  • Integration
  • Data
