GeoBSD - UNIX GIS Workstation

GeoBSD is a BSD based operating system designed to be a fully functional UNIX GIS Workstation. The main objectives are; speed and maximum open-source GIS integration. As far as speed is concerned, the FreeBSD operating system provide a good base that delivers both a rock solid foundation and performance. As for open-source GIS integration, our goal is to provide binary packages of as many GIS-related open-source software as possible.

Speed

I am in the process of tweaking/stripping benchmarking GeoBSD vs Linux (latest Debian) in order to achieve maximum performance.

Open-source GIS applications

As packages are available for BSD, I need to make sure everything is working fine and the like. Definitively a work in progress here.

Releases

There is no release as of now. Releases will be of two kind; stable and current. The "stable" release will be one to be used by everyone and production ready. The "current" release will be the one developers (in this case, me) are working on at the moment and will be known to be unstable (meaning; use at your own risk and not for production).

The releases are located on the Geo Genie FTP server.

Developers

Well, as of now, Maxime Labelle (me) is the only developer. =P

How to help

The best way to get started is to download GeoBSD and give it a try! If you find any bug, reporting them is helping. Fixing them (if you can) is good too.. =)

If you have a strong BSD experience and you think you can contribute (doc/code) to this project, let me know.

If you have graphic skills (I don't), you can submit logos, backgrounds and the like to this project as I have none of those.
