About Legato

disy has initiated the web mapping client Legato which is constantly further developed as it is an important software component of our products. The development was based on the demand for an advanced and more flexible client as an alternative to the web mapping client used for our products disy GISterm and disy Cadenza. Market research showed that OpenLayers would be a good basis for the planned software development. However, it could not meet all requirements.

The new client should have a powerful component model on the development side so that it can be easily integrated into the web application of the products disy GISterm and disy Cadenza. The new client should also be easily adjustable and extensible. Since 2009, we have therefore implemented structured extensions based on OpenLayers. It became quickly obvious that an elegant integration into our products is based on both a modular structure and flexible configurability. Therefore, we have extended the new client in such a way that it can be easily configured, in particular via XML.

In combination with other components, our new development provides significant added value compared to the basic functionality of OpenLayers. That is why we decided to give it its own name, i.e. Legato. In particular its easy configurability has impressed our customers so that they have already used Legato for their own scenarios. We are convinced that our development adds considerable value to the web mapping product world and therefore, we have turned Legato into an open source project.

Product description

Legato is a configurable, lightweight web mapping client that can be easily embedded into web pages and portals, CMS and individual web applications. Legato is implemented in JavaScript and based on the popular open source library OpenLayers. Legato allows non-developers and Web designers to easily create map viewers, since map content and client functionality are configured and do not need to be programmed. Therefore, it is easy to create and re-use map contents and client components. Moreover, Legato includes the first generic WPS client.

Legato is a free and open source software.
