Live GIS Disc Testing

This wiki describes how to test each application installed in the Live GIS Disc. Each section should contain enough information for an Ubuntu user who is unfamiliar an application to try it out and confirm that everything has been installed correctly.

Steps
  • Double click on the GRASS desktop icon
Verify you see a slick "Welcome to GRASS" GUI
  • Select Spearfish60 for location, User1 for mapset
  • Click on [Start Grass]
  • In the Layer Manager GUI window add a raster layer
    • On the toolbar click the icon with a + and a checkerboard
    • On map to be displayed pull down the list and select elevation.dem
  • from the PERMANENT mapset and click [ok]
  • In the Layer Manager GUI window add a vector layer
    • On the toolbar click the icon with a + and a "V" line
    • For input map name pull down the list and select roads from the PERMANENT mapset and click [ok]
  • Over in the Map Display window toolbar click on the eyeball icon to render

Installed from: install_main_docs.sh

  • Confirm that Firefox is opened at startup
  • Confirm that it opens up at file:///usr/local/share/livedvd-docs/index.html
  • Confirm that the homepage is set to file:///usr/local/share/livedvd-docs/index.html
  • Confirm that you can see descriptions about the different projects.

GRASS

Installed from install_grass.sh

  • Double click on the GRASS desktop icon
  • You should see a slick "Welcome to GRASS" GUI
  • Select Spearfish60 for location, User1 for mapset
  • Click on [Start Grass]
  • In the Layer Manager GUI window add a raster layer
    • On the toolbar click the icon with a + and a checkerboard
    • On map to be displayed pull down the list and select elevation.dem

  • In the Layer Manager GUI window add a vector layer

    • For input map name pull down the list and select roads from the

  • Over in the Map Display window toolbar click on the eyeball icon to render
You should now see the maps displayed

That's it.

deegree

Installed from install_deegree.sh

  • desktop icon "start deegree" will run "catalina.sh start".
  • desktop icon will also open a new tab in firefox ("http://localhost:8081/")
    • Click links in top left box ("deegree Web Applications"). The service links should open test pages for WMS, WFS, and WCS with links to "Test WMS", "Test WFS" and "Test WCS". Make sure to get either maps or xml fragments.
    • The client link (iGeoPortal) will open in a new tab and should open a full working portal after choosing one of the offered WebMapContexts (Utah, SaltLakeCity or Playground).
  • desktop icon "stop deegree" will kill the deegree-tomcat process.

F1 Test Notes 27Sep09 darkblue_b booted as .iso image under VirtualBox 3.06 1024m RAM; 128m Video Ram; 1 processor; VT-X enabled; 3d acc enabled

booted and ran, gvSIG,QGis,uDig, OpenJUMP to Postgres Medford, displayed normally; 800x600 default screen size w/o guest additions; PgAdmin connects correctly ; R demo(graphics) works fine.. ; MapFish good; Start Mapnik, Mapnik demo good;

Start Geoserver - brings up dialog; completes; launches FF but gets "Failed to Connect" with URL localhost:8082/geoserver/welcome.do; waiting another few minutes cures the fail

1024m RAM; 128m Video Ram; 1 processor; VT-X enabled; 3d acc disabled

graphics init fails.. boots to command line ??

Mapnick,Mapserver,Geonetwork Icons: URL is missing a /doc/

template_postgis - select postgis_version() -> 1.3; apparently no Postgis 1.4
