Support for logos and branding has been requested by many people over the past few months.  To give just a few examples:

* the current logo uses gradients, which had to be manually hacked to make it suitable for the Lands' End T-shirts

* the PowerPoint (OpenOffice) template is unattractive

* our ad template is less than inspiring

* we do not have a business card template

* we regulary receive requests for the logo in web colors, various file formats, etc

While OSGeo was able to produce the initial logo using our own volunteer talent, it is felt that taking the logo and branding to the next level requires a degree of professional skill we don't have in-house.

To address this, VisCom solicited proposals from a few design firms.  Our goals were:

* refine the current logo to make it suitable for use in all media formats

* produce a set of logo variations, for use in B/W, web colors, EPS, etc, etc

* produce a template for powerpoint slides, business cards, etc (like [[http://www.joomla.org/content/view/259/70/ this]])

* produce a "branding book" (like [[http://www.joomla.org/images/logos/Joomla_Brand_Manual_10-02-2005.pdf this]])

* be able to provide future support for booth materials, signage, etc

LisaL received two quotes for this work, both in the $12-16K range.  mpg received a 4-phase proposal from [[http://pushdesign.net/ Push Design]] for $7200 -- you can read it [[http://wiki.osgeo.org/images/3/38/Proposal_OSGeo.pdf here]].

''(Disclaimer: the lead for Push Design, John Close, is a friend of mine. Furthermore, John has done a lot of work for LizardTech in the past -- although hired not by me, and completely independent of my relationship with him.)''

VisCom feels that the Board should fund $7200 for the Push Design proposal, to be paid in 4 installments, with the work to be overseen by VisCom and mpg.
