I am a Texas-based independent software engineer, and have been working primarily in GIS since the early 1990s. I first came to open-source (Mapserver) in '06. Much of my work over the years has been involved in electric/gas utilities and telecoms, and I've had exposure to a number of the popular proprietary systems from ESRI, GE, Intergraph, Autodesk, Bentley.
