Alessandro Sarretta obtained a degree (2002) and a PhD (2008) in Environmental Science at the University Ca' Foscari, Venice, and a master degree (2008) in Geographical Information Systems and Remote Sensing at the University IUAV, Venice. Since 2012 he is a researcher at the Italian National Research Council (CNR), now at the Research Institute for Hydrogeological Protection of the CNR, in Padua, previously at the Institute of Marine Science of the CNR, in Venice. He is involved in the marine/coastal and now geomorphological fields, in environmental data management and processing, spatial data infrastructures, implementation of decision support systems, standards and interoperability of research data. He is interested in various fields of open knowledge: free and open source geographic software, open science, participatory mapping. He is a member of GFOSS.it, Wikimedia Italia and OpenStreetMap volunteer. Since the beginning of 2020 he is National Coordinator of OpenStreetMap for Wikimedia Italia.
