Key Accomplishments

The MapServer project has released two major versions in 2025: 8.4.0 (January) and 8.6.0 (December). These releases include significant new features and improvements to enhance functionality and performance.

  • MapServer 8.4.0 (January 2025): Introduced support for PCRE2 library, a new CONNECTIONTYPE RASTERLABEL, increased LEGEND_KEYSIZE_MAX, four new COMPOSITE blending operations, and improved encryption key file handling. Also enabled use_default_extent_for_getfeature for OGC Features API and PostGIS.
