OSGeo Experience and Roles:
"I have no special talent. I am only passionately curious."-Albert Einstein These words, spoken by one of the greatest physicists of all time and one of my idol(s), are the ones that I live by each single day. My name is Ameya Deshmukh. I was born in the historical city of Aurangabad, situated in the state of Maharashtra, on 22nd September, 2001, to Dr. Anand and Manjiri Deshmukh, two of the most respected doctors in the city today.I was admitted to Nath Valley School, Aurangabad in 2008 in the first grade, regarded as one of the best schools in the city, and have been in this school ever since. I am currently in 10th grade (as of December 1, 2017). From the first grade itself, I showed signs that I was inclined towards mathematics and the sciences, usually topping my class in these subjects. I was introduced to the wonderful world of programming in 2014, when I was in grade 7, as it was the first time the computer science syllabus in my school had included programming. I learnt the extremely simple yet fun (although quite outdated now) QBasic 64 programming language that year, and made the end-of-year school project on spherical mirrors in the same, which was one of the top projects that year. From that point onward, it's been an uphill journey. I decided to start learning C++ in the 8th grade, alongside Visual Basic 6.0 (which was included in the school syllabus). I quickly became interested in algorithms and data structures, and began with competitive programming in 9th grade. I also became interested in game design and development, and made a game (although basic) in Unreal Engine 4 as part of my school project. I was also interested in music since the 5th grade, and my love for Indian classical music earned me two certificates (with distinction) in two exams conducted by the Akhil Bharatiya Gandharva Mahavidyalaya (ABGMV), one of the premier classical music institutions in India, in the instrument harmonium. I am also an avid runner, swimmer and cricket lover and have taken part in 3 10k marathons, 2 of which were held in my city, and one in the city of Satara, Maharashtra. I also earned many medals, laurels and scholarships in various competitive examinations in the subjects of Mathematics, Computer Science and Science (highlighted in my resume). I qualified for the 2nd (offline) round of the hackathon conducted by Avaya Inc. in summer 2017 held in Pune, but could not attend due to unfavourable circumstances. I first took part in the Google Code-In whilst in the 9th grade in 2016, but could only win a tshirt as I entered the competition too late, with too less tasks remaining. This year, I hope to at least make it as a finalist in any one of the fabulous organisations who have graced the GCI with their presence this year, one of them being OSGeo. I am extremely interested in the applications of mapping technology, AI and Machine Learning in the healthcare sector, and aspire to pursue a bachelor's degree in computer science from any of the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and then pursue a PhD in AI/ML from Stanford University or Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
