Use this page to jot down and develop any good idea for the 2016 program with gvSIG project. Please, use the gvSIG mailing lists for discussion and check 2015, 2014, 2013, 2012, 2011, 2010, 2009 ideas pages for examples or reference.

Integrating a tool for urban storm drainage design in gvSIG

  • Product: gvSIG Desktop
  • Possible mentors: Andrea Antonello, Joaquin del Cerro
  • Possible student: Silvia Franceschi

The main idea behind this project is to port/develop a tool for the design and verification of storm drainage and sewer systems in gvSIG. The tool calculates the maximum discharge using a simplified geomorphology based hydrological model considering the morphology of the surface, the drainage area and its permeability. Based on this calculation the flow of the water in the pipes is simulated using a cinematic model considering the main characteristics of the pipes (slope, diameter, roughness). The results of the simulations are the needed diameter and slope for each pipe of the storm drainage network.

Add tests and educational games support to gvSIG Educa

  • Product: gvSIG Desktop
  • Mentors: Óscar Martínez, Joaquin del Cerro
  • Student: Carlos Colombana

The main idea behind this project is to develop a plugin which allows to create/play tests and educational games. Also generate documentation specially oriented to users without any programming knowledge.

The code will be mainly developed in Jython, an implementation of the Python programming language written in Java, throw the scripting module of the gvSIG desktop 2.x branch.

The developed tools will be used in geography and maps learning.
