The Spanish language chapter of OSGeo is pleased to announce that we have been selected to host the FOSS4G 2010 international conference. The conference is planned for Barcelona in September 2010, and is expected to attract the leading users and developers in the open source geospatial community.

Support for the Barcelona bid came from institutions, companies and universities. The international Spanish speaking community played an important role by adding even more enthusiasm to this event. Spain is a European country where many institutions are investing in Free Software; some great examples have been the administrations of Extremadura, and Andalucia y Comunidad Valenciana.

Holding this conference in Europe will be a great chance to join all the crews from the developing community, mostly active in Europe and North America. Barcelona is very easy to reach from all over the world and it's a perfect city to spend a little time.

Lorenzo Becchi, representing the OSGeo Spanish speaking chapter, will lead the organizing team.

About FOSS4G FOSS4G is an annual international conference on open source geospatial software. From its beginnings the FOSS4G conference has been the gathering of the spatial tribes and has a reputation of being a melting pot for great ideas in the spatial industry and a catalyst for many successful geospatial products, standards and protocols. The 2007 conference was held in Victoria, BC, Canada and was a huge success[2]. 2008 conference was held in Cape Town, South Africa[3]. 2009 conference will be held in Sidney, Australia[4]. FOSS4G 2010 Barcelona will be the eight "formal" gathering of the open source geospatial community. 2010 will be a key year for Europe and the Inspire Initiative and FOSS4G will be the best place to show the Free Software way to make an SDI work.
