The OSGeo Journal is published under the Creative Commons By Attribution - No Derivatives license. This gives you the following rights (taken from the above link):

Translations

Language translations are managed by the Journal editorial team. You are welcome to help with language translations but they must be coordinated with the Journal team so that content can be rolled back into the official publication. You may also contact the author of the work to obtain further permissions for using the work.

Contributors

These guidelines for those who are contributing or considering contributing articles or content to the Journal. Direct questions to the Journal management/editorial team if your article will not fit this guidelines.

Content

Journal content covers several broad areas of geospatial interest, but is primarily for presenting articles about Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) as applied in the geospatial field. Articles that are primarily focused on proprietary (non-FOSS) applications will not be accepted. Articles may contain information about proprietary products as long as they are presented in the context of integrating FOSS within traditionally non-FOSS environments or highlighting migration from non-FOSS to FOSS solutions.

This rationale is based on the fact that there are many other journals and magazines available for non-FOSS applications to promote their products. However, FOSS users are regularly concerned with how to work within a proprietary environment or move away from one, so articles that show a mixture of technology may still be relevant.

Contributors must agree with this sentiment when proposing or submitting content.

Authorization

Contributors retain copyright on their articles
Contributors authorize the OSGeo Journal to reproduce and edit the content of their articles, including translating the content into other languages, at no cost and with no commitment to maintain the article in the future
Contributors agree to license their articles under the same license as the OSGeo Journal (see Licensing below)
Contributors authorise the OSGeo Journal to have copyright over the compilation, including the representation of their articles in the Journal format

Timing

Contributors agree to timing deadlines for submitting material to the Journal editorial team and recognize that an article may be rejected or postponed to a future edition if submission deadlines are not met.

Readers

You are free to download, print, copy and redistribute the contents of the OSGeo Journal and its articles. If you post the document(s) online, you must also provide a reference back to the original Journal web site: http://www.osgeo.org/journal. If you cannot provide a link back to the original site, we ask that you identify the source in a manner that respects the original authors and OSGeo and the publisher, for example by adding this text to the web page:
