About

David has more than 20 years of professional GIS experience, focusing on enterprise architecture, server/web application development, data management, and program management. He received his degree in Geography from UC Santa Barbara. After being a student assistant at the last Esri conference in Palm Springs, he then joined them and began a career in GIS. He spent 12 years at Esri as a Data Engineer with ArcGIS Online (aka ArcIMS, Geography Network, ArcData Online). Eventually leading a team of 5 to manage a 2TB spatial database.

From there, he joined Booz Allen Hamilton and consulted for 7 years with the US Army Corps of Engineers. First, as the GIS Coordinator for the Los Angeles District. Wearing two hats as a manager and server-geek ... desinging, building, implementing an Enterprise GIS system for 800 employees, and leading a team of six analysts. And later as a developer/GIS specialist supporting CorpsMap, a web-based map tool utilized by all USACE districts across the US. While at USACE, he supported Esri products on the desktop, and open source technologies on the server side.

Beginning Feb 2015, he joined forces with UrtheCast, a satellite imagery company. He was responsible for integrating data into the web platform, and creating REST API access for developers. In addition, he works with Big Data technologies to push the limits of what satellite data has to offer.

Since August 2016, he has been an integral part of The Climate Corporation geospatial solutions.

In the Fall of 2014, he completed a 2-month Big Data Engineering fellowship with INSIGHT in Palo Alto, CA.

From Aug 2015 to Nov 2016, he was part of the GIS Education Center at City College of San Francisco, teaching a workshop on Open Source GeoStack.
