Benny Istanto is an agricultural meteorologist by training and a certified GIS Professional (GISP). He currently works as a Climate Geographer with the Geospatial Operations Support Team (GOST) of Development Economic Data Group (DECDG), and as a Data Scientist with the Global Facility for Disaster Reduction and Recovery (GFDRR) on the Risk Data Library project, both at The World Bank, Washington DC, focusing on operational climate monitoring and spatial analysis.

His work heavily involves processing large-scale climate and hazard datasets to support data-driven decision-making. He relies on open-source geospatial tools and workflows to bridge the gap between technical Earth Observation data and practical applications like drought risk assessments.
