The title of the project is Development of Opensource technology to utilize geospatial software and the RFP(Request For Proposal) includes development of Opensource GIS processing technology, development of Opensource GIS analyzing technology, and development of Opensource GIS publishing technology. The total fund is about $9.5M(USD) and the total project period is three and a half years.

The meaning of this project is that Korean Government has will to develop not only geospatial field but also opensource GIS for the future. It is expected that the level and market size of Opensource GIS in South Korea will be increased and the awareness of Opensource GIS in South Korea will be raised throughout this project. This defnitely helps to make good Opensource GIS eco system in South Korea.

Some of OSGeo Korean Chapter members participated to plan this R&S project from the very beginning and they think this will bring great opportunites to Opensource GIS companies in South Korea. Also, since FOSS4G 2015 event will be taking place in Seoul in 2015, this R&D project and FOSS4G 2015 event will play great role in Opensource GIS field in South Korea.
