Personal Description : | Dr. Marco Minghini obtained a BSc degree (2008) and an MSc degree (2010), both with honors, in Environmental Engineering at Politecnico di Milano. In 2014 he obtained his PhD with merit in Environmental and Infrastructures Engineering at Politecnico di Milano with a thesis on the use of open source software, including mobile data collection and virtual globes for VGI and citizen science applications. From 2014 to 2018 he worked as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the GEOlab of Politecnico di Milano. Since 2018 he works as a Scientific Project Officer at the European Commission - Joint Research Centre in Ispra (Italy) (Directorate B "Growth & Innovation" - Unit B6 "Digital Economy") in the team responsible for the implementation of the INSPIRE Directive. Driven by the use of open source software, his research focuses on Spatial Data Infrastructures (SDIs), Volunteered Geographic Information (VGI) and OpenStreetMap (OSM). He has been a member of the Editorial Board of the journal Open Geospatial Data, Software and Standards (2018-2021) and the Secretary of ISPRS WG IV/4 "Collaborative Crowdsourced Cloud Mapping (C³M)" (2016-2022); he is currently the Chair of ISPRS ICWG IV/III/II "Openness in Geospatial Science and Remote Sensing". He is an active OSM contributor, member of the OpenStreetMap Foundation since 2017, member of the OpenStreetMap Foundation State of the Map Organizing Committee since 2018, Voting Member of the Humanitarian OpenStreetMap Team (HOT) since 2017 and OSGeo Charter Member since 2015. He attended his first FOSS4G in 2011 and has now became a regular participant and presenter at global and local FOSS4G and State of the Map events. He was the Secretary of FOSS4G Europe 2015, member of the LOC of FOSS4G 2022, Co-chair of the Academic Tracks at FOSS4G 2022, FOSS4G 2023 and FOSS4G Europe 2024. | |
