Introduction

Birds of a Feather (BoF) sessions are unstructured timeslots where people can self-organise themselves to discuss topics of interest.

General Information

At the FOSS4G-Europe-2025 conference in Mostar, a number of spaces have been reserved for people to flock together in Birds of a Feather sessions.

How to organize a BOF

BoF sessions are informal gatherings of people around a specific topic. BoF's can be held in BoF rooms at specified timeslots or taken off-site for breakfast, lunch, or dinner!

The FOSS4G Europe conference provides the BoF rooms at the University of Mostar where the parallel sessions of FOSS4G Europe 2025 take place, but the setup of the bird-of-feather meetup is done informally using this wiki by you yourself.

The room names follow the encoding:

Mapping Connectivity: How Open School Geospatial Data Powers Digital Inclusion

Nearly half of the world’s 6 million schools still lack internet access - a barrier to learning, opportunity, and equity. In this Birds of a Feather session, we’ll explore how Giga is using open geospatial data and tools to map school locations and connectivity status, helping governments, partners, and communities make smarter investments and close the digital divide.

We'll also explore the power of open school data beyond connectivity: how can we better support disaster response, infrastructure planning, and public health, unlocking broader social impact through transparency and collaboration.

Join us to exchange ideas, discuss open data standards, and connect with others working at the intersection of FOSS, mapping, and meaningful access.
