2 | Thijs van Menen | Netherlands | From: Bart van den Eijnden
When I first started to work on a large open source geospatial project in The Netherlands in 2002/2003, Thijs was part of the government agency (Rijkswaterstaat) that did the tender for a geospatial infrastructure based on open standards. Our open source proposal got chosen, and we worked many many years on setting up the SDI and maintaining it. The project was called GeoServices, and as with many things, the project was unfortunately a bit ahead of its time. Thijs is one of the few people at government agencies that truly understands what open source is. He is very passionate about open source software development, and a few years after the inception of the project he led a team of consultants hired by the Ministry to work on the maintenance of the software as well as on applications built on top of it. He has also been a frequent attendant of FOSS4G, with attendance in Victoria, Cape Town and Denver. Some of the Denver people might remember Thijs by his frequent use of the phrase “Tik hem aan ouwe”. He was also involved in the inception of the Dutch language chapter. Through this nomination I’d also like to thank Thijs for everything he did for open source geospatial in The Netherlands. His enthusiasm really helped things move forward. |

Dr Luciene Delazari[1] is assistant professor in Cartography and GIS at the Federal University of Parana, Brazil. Over the years Luciene taught many courses in Cartography and GIS, both at undergraduate and graduate level. She gave guest lectures, tutorials and courses at universities and conferences in many cities around Brazil. She is leading Cartography and GIS research at Geodetic Science Program and published over 20 journal papers in this field. Her research interests and publications are in cartographic visualisation, interface design for cartographic products and automated cartographic design. Luciene is the cochair of the Geospatial IG of the Research Data Alliance[2] and also is coeditor for Special issue is on "Open Geospatial Science and Applications" of ISPRS International Journal of Geo-Information.Her details are at [3]. Luciene has provided us huge support in our education efforts esp in establishing Open Source Geospatial Labs in Brazil and now is actively helping and supporting colleagues in other universities in Brazil and across South America to start Open Source Geospatial Labs in their universities. I also had the opportunity of working with her when she visited Nottingham University for a one year visiting research fellowship. During her time at Nottingham, she actively contributed to "Geo for All" initiative and also helped build many collaborations in Open GIS. She also is supervising a Google Summer of Code student in schematisation plugin for QGIS . Now back in her university in Brazil, i am sure she will further build more momentum for OSGeo's education activities there. I believe Luciene Delzari will be an excellent OSGeo charter member and will help in further building up our global strength. Thanks. |

54 | David Percy | United States | From: Eli L Adam
David Percy ("Percy") is involved with so many different aspects of open source geospatial in the PDX area that I can't cover it all and he probably can't even remember it all. He's been doing this longer than the seven years I've know him but I will cover that period. Percy uses and teaches open source geospatial at Portland State University. Much of his work focuses on geological issues. He has also been involved with international geologic standards, software and mapping and he includes open source geospatial in those as well. Percy has been the center of various open source geospatial organizational efforts locally. Percy organized the PDX-OSGeo chapter for many years. He also has developed open source tracks in local GIS conferences. He is also the contact for the ICA-OSGeo lab at Portland State University. |

55 | Tanya Haddad | United States | From: Eli L Adam
I'm happy to nominate a long time cornerstone of OSGeo activities in the PDX region and wider coastal discipline, Tanya Haddad. Tanya Haddad is a local user and supporter of open source geospatial. Tanya is also a key connector of people both locally and nationally (especially in the catalog, metadata, and coastal contexts). Tanya works in State government in the Oregon Coastal Management Program and has successfully deployed open source solutions for web mapping and reporting (MapServer, GeoNetwork, PostGIS, ka-Map!, OpenLayers and others). Tanya is a long time and effective open data advocate. Tanya has also organized PDX-OSGeo for many years and continues to welcome and mentor new members and leaders in PDX-OSGeo. She is a key contributor to the FOSS4G LOC. Tanya's well reasoned thought process and emails and patient interactions are a benefit to any endeavor she undertakes. |

56 | Nimalika Fernando | Sri Lanka | From: Anne Ghisla
It is my pleasure to nominate Nimalika Fernando [1], from Sri Lanka, for Charter membership. Nimalika is attached to Sri Lanka Institute of Information Technology (SLIIT) [2] and initiated the Institute's ICA-OSGeo Lab, named OSGeoSLIIT [3,4], that strongly focuses on free and open source software. In March 2014 she was instrumental in organising the first FOSS4G event in Sri Lanka [5],which was a success, with 60 participants including students from several Sri Lankan universities [6]. Yann Chemin introduced me to Nimalika when I visited Sri Lanka early this year, and I have soon been impressed by her enthusiasm and proactivity in spreading open source GIS, especially in education. I believe that her contribution in teaching is crucial to the future of OSGeo, as it connects the international experts in the field with young generation in Sri Lanka, where open source GIS can make a very positive impact.

59 | Nikos Alexandris | Greece | From: Dimitris Kotzinos
Nikos has been a long advocate of Open Source GIS and OSGEO [1] and has been one very active person in supporting both since 2007 (and we know him since). He actually sees OSGEO as the means to actively cultivating a technologically advanced and socially aware geospatial way of thinking and acting. He has been actively involved in pushing Open Source GIS and OSGEO in both academic and industry-oriented settings and his passion has taken him recently from Greece up to India (TERI and Kurukshetra Universities) in order to promote specifically GRASS-GIS. He has participated in community sprints for GRASS-GIS, in the translation of the OSGEO web site to Greek and has been very active in the OSGEO Greek Chapter and the Greek Open Source community in general, especially by having participated in numerous events in Greece about Open Source in general and Open Source GIS specifically and has been interviewed about this for magazines. You can find more about Nikos at [2]. We think that Nikos gathers all the required qualities specified in the OSGEO nomination pages for a charter member. Dimitris, as the founder of the Greek OSGEO Chapter, considers Nikos a valuable member of the OSGEO Greek Chapter and OSGEO in general and as OSGEO Charter Members we both think that Nikos' passion and dynamism will bring a lot of energy to OSGEO and that he carries all the necessary qualities to serve OSGEO from many different positions. |
